Do you want to make a difference for children and young people on their path to a high school diploma? The Department of Student Health and Coordination is now looking for a counselor who wants to work specifically with children and young people in social care, focusing on creating conditions for uninterrupted schooling. This is a project position for the upcoming academic year, with the possibility of extension.
In Malmö Municipality, we work based on the SAMS model, a national collaboration model aimed at ensuring that children and young people in social care complete their education. In this role, you will collaborate closely with students, guardians, high schools, and several departments, with the goal of helping more students achieve a high school diploma. Completing one's education is one of the most important health-promoting factors for doing well in life, both in the short and long term. Responsibilities
In this assignment, you are responsible for coordinating the work regarding students in social care, with a focus on mapping needs, planning, and coordinating a functioning schooling process. You will meet students placed in various types of institutions, such as SIS homes, detention centers, and LVU placements, where you work to ensure their education follows as cohesive and sustainable a structure as possible. You will also shape the work based on changing societal conditions, such as the government's planned lowering of the age of criminal responsibility. This change may affect children's and young people's health, well-being, and schooling in relation to longer detention periods, requiring close and effective cooperation with schools, guardians, and social services. Your main tasks include:
- You will have a coordination responsibility for the overall process regarding placed children and young people, in collaboration with representatives from the primary school administration and the employment administration with similar assignments.
- You will have an operational role in establishing a good workflow so that the administration has an overview of the children and young people who become subject to schooling under various forms of social institutions.
- You will work operationally at the individual level before, during, and after placement in close cooperation with internal and external actors.
- You will have an advisory function to employees within the high school and adult education administration, the employment and social administration, social institutions, guardians, and not least to the student themselves.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- University degree in Social Work (210 ECTS credits)
- Several years of experience from social work with a focus on children and young people
- Experience working with children and young people within social services
- Experience working as a school counselor
- Good understanding of school goals and regulatory documents
- Good digital competence
- Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
Merits:

- Good habit of cooperating with other authorities and participating in various networks.
The role of counselor requires that you are confident in your professional role and have the ability to take initiative to achieve results. You adapt easily to changed conditions, absorb new information, and see opportunities in new situations. You take responsibility for your task, find solutions, and drive your work independently and systematically. Furthermore, you build trust in meetings with students, guardians, and colleagues. You collaborate well with other professions and work relationally, with respect and sensitivity. Additionally, you value differences and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others.
